Assurance Consultant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assurance Consultant to join a highly respected public health network in Adelaide on a 3-month contract. This pivotal role sits within the Internal Audit Function, where your expertise will directly contribute to the ongoing improvement of healthcare services for over 400,000 people. You will be at the heart of a collaborative and supportive team, working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across a complex and dynamic organisation.
The position offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact by ensuring robust governance, risk management, and compliance processes are in place. With a strong focus on professional integrity, continuous learning, and inclusive values, this is an ideal role for someone who thrives in environments that value accountability, respect, and excellence. Flexible working opportunities and exposure to diverse projects make this a unique contract for those looking to further their career in internal audit within the public sector.
- Play a key part in shaping internal audit practices within one of South Australia's largest health networks, supporting quality care delivery to a diverse community.
- Work alongside knowledgeable professionals in a culture that values collaboration, respect, and personal growth, with access to training opportunities and mentorship responsibilities.
- Enjoy flexible working arrangements while contributing to high-impact projects that enhance organisational resilience and uphold the highest standards of integrity.
What You'll Do
As an Assurance Consultant, you will play an integral role in supporting the Internal Audit Function by planning and executing a variety of audit projects that underpin organisational effectiveness. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with colleagues across multiple departments to identify areas for improvement, drafting clear audit documentation, following up on agreed action items, and providing insightful recommendations that drive positive change. You will also have opportunities to participate in special investigations of complex or sensitive matters - requiring discretion and analytical acumen - and offer guidance on risk management strategies. Success in this role will come from your ability to communicate findings effectively through written reports, build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels, adapt quickly to changing priorities within a large healthcare system, and demonstrate unwavering commitment to ethical standards. Your contribution will help ensure that robust governance frameworks are maintained while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the network.
- Plan and conduct comprehensive internal audit projects aligned with the approved Internal Audit Plan, ensuring all activities meet established standards and are delivered within budget constraints.
- Draft detailed audit briefs that clearly outline objectives, scope, and methodology for each assigned project, setting the foundation for effective audits.
- Prepare thorough work plans and audit programmes tailored to each project's unique requirements, ensuring clarity and structure throughout the process.
- Contribute to the creation of draft Internal Audit reports for review by senior leadership prior to submission to executive management.
- Maintain and regularly update the organisation-wide Recommendation Register, tracking required actions from both internal and external audits to ensure timely follow-up.
- Assist with special projects and sensitive investigations as requested by leadership, providing clear advice regarding findings and recommendations.
- Provide professional advice to management on risks, controls, processes, and systems to support informed decision-making across the network.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels as well as external consultants, fostering cooperation and shared understanding.
- Mentor internal audit staff or external consultants when required, sharing knowledge and supporting professional development within the team.
- Prepare timely audit reports and memos for review by senior management while maintaining accurate records in line with best practice documentation standards.
What You Bring
To excel as an Assurance Consultant in this context, you will bring proven experience from roles involving internal auditing or financial analysis - ideally gained within public sector organisations or similarly regulated environments. Your background will include hands-on involvement with end-to-end audit cycles: from initial planning through execution to final reporting. You will possess strong analytical abilities that enable you to interpret data accurately while identifying trends or anomalies requiring attention. Your interpersonal strengths will allow you to build rapport with colleagues at all levels; you understand how vital it is to foster trust-based relationships when discussing sensitive topics such as risk or compliance. A natural collaborator who values teamwork over individual achievement, you thrive when sharing knowledge or offering mentorship. Your written communication skills are exceptional - you can distil complex findings into concise yet comprehensive reports suitable for executive audiences. Above all else, your approach is grounded in integrity; you consistently act with professionalism even when handling confidential information or navigating challenging circumstances.
