About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Mid-Level Java Developer to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract, supporting a government client in Perth, WA.

In this role, you will design, develop, test, and maintain secure and scalable software solutions. You'll work across the full stack with a focus on back-end development, taking ownership of your tasks while collaborating within a cross-functional Agile team. You'll be empowered to work independently, contribute to quality code reviews, and help improve our engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain high-quality software applications using Java and related technologies
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define technical solutions
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint goals
  • Conduct and receive code reviews to support continuous improvement
  • Debug, test, and optimise applications for performance and scalability
  • Follow secure coding practices and help manage application-level security risks
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing and support a culture of learning and growth
Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in software development, ideally within enterprise environments
  • Strong proficiency in Java, with additional skills in Python, C#, or JavaScript viewed favourably
  • Experience with modern development frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Angular, React)
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and software design patterns
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Agile methodologies
  • Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience with containerisation tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong skills in SQL and/or NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of software security, secure coding practices, and compliance standards
  • Comfortable contributing independently while seeking support when needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Developer Associate, Azure Developer Associate)
  • Experience working on government or public sector projects
