SUMMARY

St Barnabas College, Adelaide, is an Anglican theological college which serves the Diocese of

Adelaide, the Province of South Australia, and the wider church community. St Barnabas College

offers higher educaKon awards accredited by University of Divinity. AddiKonally, St Barnabas College

operates as a Community of Learning for the whole people of God, providing and administering lay

ministry educaKon and training, accredited and non-accredited professional development programs,

and preparaKon for ordinaKon.

The Coordinator of Ministry Discernment and FormaKon facilitates the process and program on

behalf of the Archbishop of Adelaide.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIPS


• The Coordinator of Ministry Discernment and Formation is part of the professional staff of St

Barnabas College with day-to-day reporting to the Principal.


• This unique role operates at the sole discretion and direction of the Archbishop.

ROLE AND RELATIONSHIPS


• The Coordinator is based at St Barnabas College and travels across the Diocese of Adelaide.


• The Coordinator engages with the student cohort and program participants on site and in

parishes, chaplaincy positions, workplaces, and homes.


• The Coordinator has strong links with parish clergy.

KEY RESPONSIBIITIES

The Coordinator of Ministry Discernment and FormaKon is a key contact person for people enquiring

about ordinaKon in the Anglican Church and undertakes the following tasks and responsibiliKes:


• Coordinate the Ministry Discernment, Formation for Ordination processes, and postordination

training program as approved by the Archbishop.


• Support and resource participants throughout the various stages of Ministry Discernment

and Formation, providing sound counsel.


• Provide resources for the discernment process and arrange regular meetings, assessments,

and connections.


• Coordinate the annual Ministry Discernment Event.


• Liaise with and resource Examining Chaplains and supervising/mentoring clergy.


• Ensure the currency of administration.


• Liaise with the national network of Coordinators of Formation.


• Deputise for ordained vocations in parishes and other ministry settings.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS


• At least ten years in Anglican holy orders.


• Eligible to be licensed in the Diocese of Adelaide


• In depth understanding of the requirements of ordained ministry in the Diocese of Adelaide

and the wider Anglican Church of Australia.


• Significant parish ministry experience and an understanding of and capacity to relate to the

breadth of the Anglican Church.


• Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary approaches to ministry.


• Proven leadership skills.


• Clear and demonstrable commitment to the mission of God in the church and growth of that

mission.


• Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Excellent administration and organisational skills.


• Capacity to think and plan strategically, set priorities, and meet deadlines.


• Capacity to practice integrity and discretion.


• Capacity to work under pressure.


• Understanding of and maintenance of boundaries with participants.


• Work with a wide range of issues, make decisions, be able to rearrange priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS


• Bachelor of Theology or Ministry


• At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education or equivalent


• Qualifications in areas such as, but not limited to: Leadership, Ministry Development,

Formation, Spirituality.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent is required to:


• be an active worshipping member of an Anglican parish or community



satisfy the Synod's Safe Ministry screening process for clergy


• conform to all conditions of appointment, organisational policies & procedures


• sign a confidentiality agreement


• hold a current driver's licence


• be prepared to travel both intra and interstate as required
