Project Hydrogeologist

HGG is seeking a permanent full time Project Hydrogeologist to assist HGG and other business units of the Green Road company, to continue and drive their expansion throughout Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. We are looking for a technically proficient Project Hydrogeologist with the ability to solve problems, communicate technical solutions to non-technical professionals, and contribute to the growth of HGG. This role supports multidisciplinary assignments with the delivery of hydrogeology project work that includes a combination of remote project based field work (Fly-in-fly-out) and office-based consultancy tasks located in our Subiaco office. This is a varied role that supports senior project staff with client proposals and business development activities.
THE ROLE
:
Technical Skills:
- Contribute to complex hydrogeological studies by monitoring, measuring and analysing through the collection of groundwater resource sampling and interpretation of data
- Groundwater bore drilling supervision and designing of water bores
- Hydrogeological logging of drilling samples and measured data into specified spatial databases (e.g., EsDAT)
- Supervision and interpretation of hydraulic pumping tests for the determination of aquifer parameters in aid of conceptual site models
- Applying best practice groundwater sampling methodologies (no purge, low flow, grab samples)
- Application of quality assurance and quality control standards
- Provide detailed technical solutions to our clients in managing and mitigating their ground water risk management.
- Undertake hydrogeological assessments for projects, integrating data from fieldwork, laboratory results, modelling and where required, client supplied data.
- Delivery of statutory compliance reporting (ground watering monitoring summary)
Project Coordination and Management:
- Presentation skills of data interpretation and overall project findings aligning with project objectives
- Supporting project planning, budgeting, and scheduling, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget
- Adhering to detailed project plans; objectives, resources, timelines and key milestones
- Ability to identify potential early project risks (technical, financial, or reputational) and escalate to the Project Manager in a timely manner
- Work within a multidisciplinary project team
- Maintain strong client relationships, understanding their unique needs and support the Project Manager in providing tailored solutions
- Support and take part in business development activities, including proposal writing and client presentations
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay abreast of environmental regulations and ensure project compliance
- Interface with regulatory agencies as needed, providing necessary documentation and expertise
- Ensure projects are delivered in alignment with legislative, environmental and workplace safety obligations
Reporting and Documentation:
- Develop high-quality technical reports, proposals, and supporting documents that clearly communicate findings, methodologies, and recommendations.
- Ensure reports are scientifically robust, accurate, and aligned with the client requirements, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE
:
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Must have a Bachelor of Science with geoscience foundation.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Hydrogeologist, with a focus on soil and water assessments.
- Ideally previous work experience within a consulting firm.
- Must have demonstrated experience with hydrogeology assessments within the mining resources industry, preferably withing the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
- Field work experience that includes water bore drilling and construction, hydraulic testing, groundwater and surface water sampling, and liaison with contract laboratories for analysis of water quality samples. Field work experience a pre-requisite, favourable if existing experience in the Pilbara WA region as well as contaminated sites characterisation.
- Experience with multiple different drilling methodologies (e.g., dual rotary, mud-rotary and reserve circulation).
- Experience with different methodologies of groundwater sampling, namely low-flow and no-purge methods.
- EsDAT database skills highly favourable.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in geological evaluation of data.
- Advanced computer literacy skills across the MS Office suite.
- Experience with project management skills.
- Demonstrated experience with technical report writing.
- Demonstrated experience in developing productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and clients.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, high level of organisational skills and effective time management skills.
- Preferable certifications, but not pre-requisites are: Western Australia White Card (for working in Construction), Australian standard 4WD certified training and Australian First Aid certified.
