Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Westpac Group Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

What's the role?

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Network Engineer to join the Secure Network Services team in Group Technology. The Security Infrastructure Services team is responsible for designing, building, managing, optimizing, and supporting high-performance network-security services and infrastructure for the Westpac Group.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you'll partner with and work very closely with customers, vendors and the broader networks and infrastructure teams. You'll play a critical role in engineering, delivering and evolving network-security patterns across edge and perimeter environments, with a strong focus on driving and optimising our Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) mitigation capabilities.

Leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation, you'll take the lead in building and managing network-security infrastructure that is robust, resilient, efficient, and continually refined through telemetry, testing and operational feedback loops.

What do I need?

  • Experience: Significant IT industry experience, with at least three years in a highly technical role within a complex IT infrastructure environment.
  • DDoS Knowledge: Hands-on experience designing, deploying, tuning and operating L3/L4 DDoS mitigation platforms (e.g. Akamai, Cloudflare, FortiDDoS, Radware, Arbor, Imperva, AWS etc), including policy management and operational response.
  • Network Engineering Skills: Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls and perimeter network architectures. Familiarity with software-defined networking overlays such as VXLAN EVPN or VMware NSX is a plus.
  • Automation & Provisioning: Strong experience automating network-security infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, Git, Python or Ansible. Preferred is the ability to design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline the deployment and management of network-security infrastructure.
  • Security Best Practices: Sound understanding of network-security best practices, including segmentation, access control, vulnerability management, and incident response.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP or Fortinet NSE.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in a complex, enterprise financial services environment is desirable.
  • Service Management: Understanding of the ITIL framework, including incident, change, and problem management.
  • Project Management & DevOps Tools: Familiarity with project management and DevOps tools such as Jira.
