Becoming an Apprentice with the City of Newcastle (CN) will provide you with the opportunity to combine on-the-job learning with structured training.

This is a 4-year fixed-term contract where you will be given the opportunity to learn an array of specialist practical skills and knowledge relevant to carpentry.

Apprentices work in conjunction with qualified tradesperson, focusing on construction, erection, installation, finish and maintenance of Council assets for public, residential and commercial buildings.

This apprenticeship is targeted at the employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. CN strives to be an inclusive workplace that is representative of the community we serve, and we encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.

If you are successful in progressing to the next stage of our recruitment process:   

You will be required to attend 1 x group assessment centre for a 3-hour period between Tuesday 30th September - Thursday 2nd October 2025.

If you are successful in progressing to the next stage of the recruitment process after the assessment centre: You will be required to complete a Pre-employment medical scheduled to take place on Tuesday 7th - Tuesday, 14th October 2025.

Remuneration:  $37, % annual leave loading, yearly payment + 12% Superannuation per annum for a 38-hour week
