What You'll Do

This role is a full-time, permanent position based in Wollongong, NSW (postcode 2500), working within Sicona's Pilot Plant facility. This role offers an annual salary package from $76,515 - $80,000 plus superannuation commensurate to the candidates experience and level of qualifications. As an entry level position, the candidate will be appropriately trained and supervised to operate within the Plant. You'll contribute to Sicona's long-term objective to deliver high performance battery materials at mass market scale, without costing the earth.

· Day-to-day pilot plant operations including provision of plant duties and maintenance schedules as part of the pilot plant operations team.

· Monitoring, adjusting and operating assets at the pilot plant to meet the plant KPIs.

· Participate in design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of new facilities, as well as turnaround and inspection (T&I).

· Identify faults through the use of fault-finding techniques followed by troubleshooting and rectification of problems.

· Update and maintain engineering documentation and drawings.

· Working in a professional, timely and safe manner following all Sicona and NSW - WHS standards and procedures.

· Identify, classify, handle and dispose of waste/chemicals according to Sicona's safety protocols throughout the production process.

· Optimise the process by having a good understanding of the process & equipment to make variations to the process and the subsequent output where required.

· Analyse and identify deviations from expected product quality output.

· Conduct in depth report writing & analyse operational output reports, providing recommendations & actions and ensure approved recommendations and actions are implemented or managed.

· Involved in project management and planning from time to time for specific Engineering projects.

· Ensure sufficient levels of all consumables/stock at the pilot plant including PPE, materials, chemicals.

· Responsible for managing technical discussions with third parties including contractors, suppliers, licensors and regulators, to ensure appropriate technical decisions are taken for allocated project work.

· Critically evaluates product output and takes a decision as to whether the product output is waste or usable following the QA/QC R&D protocols.

· Assist with raw material and final product inventory sample collections

· Live and breathe our safety-first culture—reporting hazards, near misses, and following WHS, HAZOPs, and risk assessments. Additionally conduct investigations where directed by the line manager and implement rectifications where applicable.

What You will need to Succeed:

· Bachelor's degree in Chemical/Process Engineering

· A "solution mindset" and able to manage varying tasks with often changing and competing priorities.

· Familiarity with Mass & Energy Balance, PFDs, and P&IDs, HAZOP analysis, troubleshooting procedure.

· A team player attitude who can also take initiative independently.

· Adaptable mindset, and ability to adjust on the fly. Priorities change. You roll with it.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills together with sound writing skills for reports and proposals.

· A drive to learn, innovate, improve, and be part of something meaningful.

· Strong communication skills and comfort with digital tools like MS Office

Even Better If You Have

· Experience in process operations, materials handling or supply chain in the same or similar setting is highly advantageous.

· Knowledge on process equipment testing and/or commissioning, as well as specifying piping and equipment layout.

· Knowledge of gas cylinders, chemical handling, and analytical equipment.

· Exposure to chemical plant safety frameworks like HAZOP or risk assessments.

· Knowledge of Working in Hazardous Areas Classifications

· First Aid, Fire Safety training, Working at Heights, White Card, Forklift training
