Details: Legal Aid is seeking suitably a qualified Supervising Lawyer Legal 3 for our Family Practice.
Working at Legal Aid Commission (ACT) is an opportunity to do challenging and rewarding work and make a meaningful contribution to the circumstances of disadvantaged and vulnerable clients and communities in the ACT.
Family Practice lawyers provide advice and guidance on parenting arrangements, separation/ divorce including property division maintenance, child protection for children/parents, court applications and advocacy.
Supervising Lawyers may be expected to supervise a small team of legal and support staff, including internships and/or student placements. A Family Practice Supervising Lawyer will have the ability to appear as an Independent Children's Lawyer.

Qualifications
- Current restricted Practicing Certificate in the ACT
- Registration on High Court of Australia Roll
Professional / Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of ACT and Commonwealth law and procedure including ability to research and interpret a variety of legislation
- At least five years post admission experience would be highly regarded
Behavioural Capabilities
- Developed organisational skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, determine priorities and meet strict deadlines in high pressure situations
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to conduct cases; well-developed advocacy skills
- Initiative, sound judgement and the capacity to respond to requests for assistance in urgent matters while working in a team environment
- Ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people experiencing physical or mental illness, and people from disadvantaged or culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Ability to prioritise self-care for mental health and wellbeing
