About This Job
About the School
Oakey State High School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community committed to supporting student success across academic, cultural, and sporting domains. This term, we proudly launched our new promotional video, highlighting the diverse opportunities and strong sense of community that define our school. Our innovative Hydrogen Horizon Teams continue to excel at the regional level, demonstrating what can be achieved through passion and purpose. Students also show outstanding commitment in sport, with notable performances in rugby league and volleyball. Supported by dedicated staff and strong industry partnerships, Oakey State High School is a place where excellence is encouraged and achievement is celebrated.
As the Next Youth Support Coordinator
You will play a vital role in supporting secondary students at risk of disengaging from education. Young people are smart, creative, and full of potential, constantly adapting to an ever-changing global world. The Department of Education recognises the complexities they face and is committed to creating the right conditions for their success.
Engagement with the education system from early childhood through to young adulthood is closely linked to positive life outcomes, including improved employment opportunities, better health, and stronger community participation. At Oakey State High School, we are focused on ensuring that our school provides the supportive and flexible learning environment young people need to remain engaged and thrive.
Your role will be central to improving our response to early warning signs of disengagement. By implementing proactive, student-centred strategies, you will help foster meaningful participation in school life and learning.
We acknowledge that some students encounter barriers that impact their ability to succeed. These challenges can arise at any stage of secondary education, and with timely, skilled intervention, many students can be supported to re-engage and achieve their goals.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a school community dedicated to ensuring that every student has the chance to succeed.
Your Responsibilities
As the Youth Support Coordinator, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Interagency collaboration and community engagement through attendance at community meetings and networking with local services
- Identification of students at risk of disengaging
- Case management on individual level and participation in Student Support and Wellbeing Teams
- Development and facilitation of lunchtime programs (lunch and breakfast club) responsive student needs
- Development and facilitation of social skills and other Student Support Programs responsive to student needs and school data
- Being an active part of the school and wider community
Please refer to the attached role description for the full list of responsibilities and mandatory requirements for this position.

- Attach a written statement (2-page maximum) to the How you may be Assessed section of the attached role description.
We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.
