Data Platform Lead

About the Role

As our new Data Platform Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in driving AFG's data platform to meet our data goals. You'll lead a team of data engineers and architects, driving the design and evolution of our data lake and warehouse. This is a hands-on role where strategy meets engineering delivery.

Reporting into the Head of Analytics and Insights, you'll collaborate across business, analytics, and technology teams to ensure our platform is secure, scalable, and aligned with enterprise data goals. The successful candidate will lead our Data Platform team, responsible for driving the transformation of our data warehouse into a centralised single source of truth, to best support consistent, accurate and trusted data and reporting across the business. From defining technical standards and governance policies to implementing robust ELT/ETL pipelines, your work will enable advanced analytics, machine learning, and operational insights.

As part of your responsibilities, you will also participate in an on-call roster to monitor and support overnight critical data workflows incidents, ensuring platform reliability and timely issue resolution.

Experience & Qualifications required.

• Proven experience leading data engineering or platform teams, mentoring talent, and managing cross-functional stakeholders.
• Expertise in cloud-native data services (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and tools like Dagster or Airflow.
• Strong understanding of data architecture, pipelines, ELT/ETL processes, and data warehousing. Experience with Informatica is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks, including data quality, lineage, and security protocols.
• Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields; advanced degrees and cloud certifications highly desirable.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Participate in an on-call roster to support overnight critical data workflow incidents.
