About the opportunity

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) is the University of Sydney's agile and future-focused in-house legal team. We partner across the University to provide strategic, high-quality legal, policy, compliance and governance advice that supports the institution's vision and priorities.

OGC enjoys a highly trusted and collaborative culture, based in a modern office on our heritage Camperdown campus. We are a strategic business unit that embraces innovation and continuous learning, including through a dedicated learning and development program focused on business, technology and career skills.

As the University evolves - particularly in response to digital transformation and the rise of generative AI - OGC is combining legal expertise with operational innovation to remain responsive, compliant and well-positioned for the future.

We are seeking an experienced Executive Assistant to join our Legal Support Team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive executive support to the General Counsel and report to the Senior Manager. You'll help drive operational and strategic priorities, strengthen institutional engagement, and create space for high-value executive focus.

As the trusted first point of contact for the General Counsel, you'll exercise sound judgment to triage and respond to matters of strategic and operational importance. You'll also play a key role in supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the Legal Support Operating Model (LSOM), embedding systems and processes that promote innovation, automation and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • act as the first point of contact for the General Counsel, triaging and prioritising matters with professionalism and discretion

  • coordinate the General Counsel's schedule, briefings, correspondence and travel, to maximise strategic impact and efficiency

  • prepare high-quality reports, briefings and sensitive communications with professionalism and discretion

  • manage confidential workflows and liaise with senior leaders and stakeholders

  • provide executive, operational and legal administrative support, enabling space for high-value institutional priorities

  • contribute to the implementation and ongoing refinement of the LSOM, embedding systems and processes that enhance operational effectiveness while championing innovation, automation and new ways of working

About you

  • extensive experience as an EA supporting C-Suite or senior leaders in a large and complex organisation (legal or higher education experience highly regarded)

  • strong foresight and intuition in anticipating executive needs and priorities

  • exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels

  • professionalism, discretion, and confidence in handling sensitive matters

  • agility, adaptability, and a passion for continuous improvement and learning

  • ability to work full time on campus
