We have an exciting opportunity for a Director, Litigation and Disputes to join the Property Commercial and Litigation team within the Legal / Strategic Service and Advice division. The role provides an opportunity for you to lead strategic litigation at the forefront of public service - shaping legal outcomes that impact communities across NSW.
The Director, Litigation and Disputes leads a specialised legal team responsible for delivering strategic litigation services and expert legal advice across civil, regulatory, and criminal matters within the Department. The role plays a critical part in supporting planning decisions, regulatory enforcement, and broader departmental objectives, while also contributing to the development of legal strategy, systems, and culture. The team regularly works on high profile and high impact cases, making a difference to the people of NSW.
Operating in a high-profile and complex regulatory environment, the role requires balancing competing priorities, managing constrained resources, and fostering strong stakeholder relationships. The Director ensures legal services are timely, risk-aware, and outcome-focused, while also driving continuous improvement and capability uplift across the Department to mitigate litigation risk and enhance service delivery.

About You
You are a senior legal executive with extensive expertise in complex litigation, ideally with experience across both civil and regulatory matters. Your strong legal acumen enables you to provide strategic, high-level advice to senior stakeholders across government in a contentious environment. You bring a deep understanding of legal risk and regulatory frameworks, and consistently deliver outcomes aligned with public sector priorities.
Your leadership is defined by emotional intelligence, integrity, and a commitment to public service. You foster high-performing, collaborative teams and build trusted relationships with executive and ministerial stakeholders. With a proven ability to navigate high-pressure environments and resource constraints, you apply sound judgment, advanced negotiation skills, and strategic foresight to shape legal direction and uplift capability across the organisation.
