Job details

Infrastructure Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. The Senior Gateway Engineer uses their in-depth knowledge of specific ICT Platforms to provide expert advice on the management and maintenance of those platforms. They work closely with key third party suppliers to ensure the provision of a robust gateway infrastructure capability for the business, and liaise with architecture and shared services areas to ensure the security of the day-to-day technical operations. Senior Gateway Engineers exercise a considerable degree of independence, with decision-making substantially dependent on their high-level judgement and consideration of wider agency implications, with work being performed under the general guidance of senior staff.

Key duties and responsibilities

Duties may include some or all the following but not limited to:

· Design/evaluate/implement infrastructure requirements to meet future infrastructure demand

· Provide expert technical support for project build, test and solution deployment activities

· Prepare, review and maintain documentation which may include design documentation, implementation plans, test plans, and support procedures

· Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, operational policy and procedures and change initiatives

· Participate in change management process and communicate the end-to-end implications of configuration changes

· Provide detailed, specialist technical advice, including strategic advice to the senior executive

· Proactively share knowledge and expertise as the subject matter expert, and aid and mentorship to less experienced colleagues

· Undertake research on emerging technologies and provide recommendations on product suitability for the agency

· Engage and partner with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability

· Attend interagency meetings and forums to influence business outcomes and share information

· Encourage innovation, continuous improvement and manage and support change and influence and contribute to ICT strategy resolving conflicts as needed

· Manage the operation of backup, high availability and disaster recovery solutions for IT systems

· Manage the regular maintenance of patches and support packages for all technical layers

· Manage the administration and operation of the Gateway network kit

· Knowledge/Qualifications:

At least five (5) years demonstrated experience in the design, management and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large scale data centre networking environment.

  1. Demonstrated experience and technical proficiency in the design of services utilising F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems.

  2. Demonstrated experience in the design and deployment of network infrastructure including Cisco Data centre technologies like Cisco ACI, Cisco Routers, nexus switches, routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, EIGRP

  3. Demonstrated experience with and/or detailed understanding of Palo Alto firewalls and IPS Solutions

  4. Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox) Solutions.

  5. Demonstrated experience in the design and integration of hybrid and public cloud services.

  6. Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of system architecture and design documentation.

  7. Demonstrated experience with or knowledge of Australian Government information security policies, the ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight.

Criteria

The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters.

Essential criteria

  1. At least five (5) years demonstrated experience in the design, management and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large scale data centre networking environment.

Desirable criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience and technical proficiency in the design of services utilising F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems. Additional requirements

  1. A security clearance will be required for the role. Does the candidate have the required Clearances, or the ability to obtain and maintain.?

  2. To identify potential conflicts of interest, is the candidate a director/owner/account manager/partner of a Seller registered on BuyICT? If so, provide the Position Title, Seller Name and Seller ABN.

  3. Provide details (e.g. manager, branch) of candidate's previous worked history either as a contractor or employee for the Buyer including its former agencies such as the Department of Human Services.

  4. Seller has obtained the Candidate's consent to be exclusively represented by the Seller for this RFQ. (Note: The Buyer does not want the same candidate submitted by multiple Sellers).

  5. Provide 2 referee details for candidate (name and contact details) who can confirm the candidate's skills/knowledge to fulfill this role. Referees can be a previous manager (within the last 4 years).

  6. The Seller acknowledges the Quote Validity Period for this RFQ is 12 months from RFQ Closing date. The Seller agrees that its Quote will remain valid for the Quote Validity Period.

  7. The Seller acknowledges that being identified as a Preferred Seller does not guarantee that the Buyer will procure Services from the Seller during the Quote Validity period.

  8. The Seller acknowledges that being identified as a Preferred Seller does not prevent the Buyer from obtaining similar services from other Sellers during the Quote Validity Period.

  9. The Seller acknowledges that being identified as a Preferred Seller does not indicate that a contract may be formed between the Buyer and Seller during the Quote Validity Period.

  10. The Seller acknowledges that if candidate is willing to travel for this role, they must be willing to work at the RFQ location for the duration of the contract.
