About CCAMLR

The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) was established in 1982 by international convention. Based on the best available scientific information, the Commission determines measures and actions necessary to conserve and sustainably harvest marine living resources in the Antarctic.

The Secretariat, located in Hobart, Tasmania, provides technical, administrative, scientific, and logistical support to the Commission and its Scientific Committee.

Our vision is to be globally recognised as a best-practice model for providing effective support to an intergovernmental marine conservation and management organisation.

Position overview

The Human Resources Officer provides specialist knowledge, advice, and support across the full range of human resources functions. The position contributes to the development and implementation of HR policies, programs and initiatives, and ensures that the Secretariat maintains efficient and compliant HR operations.

Working under general direction, the HR Officer will support areas including recruitment, onboarding, remuneration, performance management, learning and development, workforce planning, workplace health and safety, and employee relations.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and administer HR operations to ensure the effective delivery of services.
  • Support recruitment, selection, onboarding, and exit processes.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Provide advice to managers and staff on HR matters and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Support performance management, job evaluation, and staff development initiatives.
  • Contribute to WH&S activities and workplace wellbeing initiatives.
  • Prepare and manage employment contracts and correspondence.
  • Provide backup support for payroll processing.
  • Assist with HR data management, reporting, and project work.
  • Contribute to Secretariat operations during CCAMLR's annual meeting cycle.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources Management or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • At least three years' experience in a HR generalist role.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary HR practices, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience in small to medium-sized organisations.
  • Knowledge of integrated database systems and HR reporting tools.
