Communications Officer

Band 6 | 8-week contract with potential extension | Local Government | ASAP start

An inner-Melbourne council is seeking a skilled Communications Officer to support their Communications & Brand team on a temporary basis.

The role

You will contribute to a wide range of communications activities that support council projects, services, and community engagement initiatives.

This includes developing content for multiple channels, coordinating collateral production, and supporting the delivery of campaigns.

Key responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and adapt content for social media, newsletters, websites, signage, and other communications.
  • Assist with the delivery of campaigns and communications plans.
  • Liaise with suppliers and printers to coordinate production of signage and other materials.
  • Provide advice and support to internal teams to ensure communications are clear, accurate, and aligned with brand guidelines.

What we're looking for

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, with strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to deliver campaigns and activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Collaborative approach with proven stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Local Council experience is essential.
  • Must have a working with children check.
