The Role

As a Printing Officer you will perform straightforward printing, finishing, and distribution activities within an agile and multi-skilled workforce. Your responsibilities will include operating a range of printing and finishing equipment, managing printing software, and scheduling production requests. A keen eye for detail is essential, as you will manipulate and prepare documents to ensure they are accurate, fit-for-purpose, and aligned with customer needs.

You will work within a small team but have the opportunity to work autonomously where you will exercise your initiative and sound judgement to manage your workflow, interpret policy, and utilise your problem-solving skills. You may be required to provide some on-the-job training to colleagues, and contribute to team discussions and continuous improvement. Strong customer service and communication skills are essential, as you will liaise with clients both verbally and via email to provide support, understand their needs to deliver high-quality products and services that meet diverse needs.

About our Team

The Directorate of Defence Print and Travel Services (DPTS) is the national service provider of print products for Defence. We provide both in-house and outsourced printing for the Australian Defence Organisation, including the APS, Army, Navy and RAAF. We provide a large variety of products including training manuals, banners, pamphlets, magazines, journals, maps, charts, doctrine and technical manuals. We offer a flexible working environment, free secure parking, and are located close to public transport. You will work in a small agile team accountable for the delivery of a range of print products to internal stakeholders. As part of this team, you will be working to enhance the customer experience ensuring print task requests are fit-for-purpose and provide the most suitable outcome. As part of this team, you will be agile in your thinking, proactive in engaging with you peer network and stakeholders, as well as have the ability to actively identify opportunities for improvements to service delivery.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Has ability to perform pre-production, printing, finishing and binding, distribution and procurement tasks.
  • Demonstrates knowledge on the production of publishing related products and services.
  • Has ability to operate print management and administrative systems to maintain workload requirements, including print management software (i.e. AccurioPro Flux or similar) and Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office products, and record-keeping applications.
  • Exhibits a flexible attitude and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure work is completed and dispatched in accordance with clients' requirements.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate messages clearly and concisely.
  • Takes the initiative to learn and comply with procedures, and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated administrative and record management skills and attention to detail.
  • Seeks feedback from supervisor to gauge satisfaction and seek assistance when required.
  • Has a commitment to continuous improvement, displays a positive attitude to change and is committed to continuing professional development.
