Life at Coast Shelter
Coast Shelter is a leading Central Coast not for profit charity assisting families, adults and young people with complex issues arising from their experience of homelessness, abuse and neglect. Our organisation is driven by our mission to deliver person-centred services to people in crisis within our community experiencing homelessness or domestic and family violence.

The Role
As a Youth Mental Health Clinical Social Worker, you will be part of our Youth Services team, working alongside dedicated colleagues across our youth refuges and outreach programs. This role is focused on supporting young people aged 14–24 by providing specialist mental health assessment, brief evidence-based interventions, and expert clinical consultation.
You will work within Coast Shelter's Trauma Responsive Framework to deliver holistic and collaborative care that empowers young people to thrive. In addition to direct clinical support, you will play a pivotal role in building the capacity of our Youth team through specialist input into case planning, risk management, and the delivery of tailored education packages. Your contribution will help ensure young people accessing our services receive consistent, safe, and effective mental health and wellbeing support.
All about You
You are an experienced and compassionate Social Worker who brings both clinical expertise and a genuine commitment to improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people. You understand the complexities of youth mental health and thrive on working collaboratively with young people, their families, and a range of professional stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes.
You will also bring:
• A bachelor's degree in social work, with membership or eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Minimum 5 years' experience working with young people in a mental health setting, including conducting specialist mental health and risk assessments.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver brief, evidence-based psychological interventions and contribute to collaborative case planning.
• Experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating training or education packages for colleagues regarding youth mental health and alcohol and other drugs.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills with the ability to relate positively to a wide range of people.
• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision, while also thriving in a collaborative team environment.
• A trauma-informed, youth-centred approach, with resilience and professionalism in challenging situations.
