Gilbert + Tobin is seeking a high-impact Staff Platform Engineer to lead the evolution of our internal platform capabilities. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, focused on standardising infrastructure, accelerating delivery through automation, and improving the developer experience across the firm.

With a primary focus on Azure, this role champions best practices in platform engineering, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and DevOps delivery. You'll work to embed governance, compliance, and operational resilience into our platform services. As an experienced individual contributor, you'll mentor others, define engineering standards, and shape the firm's approach to modern infrastructure.

This role is ideal for engineers looking to expand their strategic influence while staying close to technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Engineering Leadership
• Define and implement scalable, standardised internal platform capabilities (e.g. deployment templates, reusable infrastructure modules)
• Partner with Infrastructure, Development and Application teams to deliver high-velocity, low-friction developer experiences
• Drive standards for CI/CD, observability, and environment consistency across environments
• Azure-Centric Cloud Enablement
• Lead Azure resource provisioning, access controls, and networking configurations
• Develop and manage Azure DevOps and GitHub pipelines, templates, and shared libraries
• Support hybrid infrastructure operations
• Governance, Risk & Compliance
• Collaborate with the Cyber Security + Risk team to embed governance, logging, and alerting into platform services
• Ensure Infrastructure-as-Code repositories and platform configurations meet security and audit requirements
• Mentorship & Capability Building
• Guide junior engineers and Systems Administrators moving into platform roles
• Support a culture of learning and technical excellence through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing
• Agile & Cross-Functional Delivery
• Operate within agile delivery teams, contributing to sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives
• Translate architectural patterns into engineering deliverables in coordination with architects and projects team

Key Skills And Attributes

• Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including compute, networking, IAM, and monitoring
• Proficient with Infrastructure as Code using Pulumi
• Skilled in scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and automating common platform tasks
• Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent CI/CD tooling
• Strong grasp of platform reliability, observability, and configuration drift management
• Understanding of risk, compliance, and secure platform design principles
• Clear and adaptable communicator with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years in platform, cloud, or infrastructure engineering roles
• Deep Azure platform knowledge in production environments
• Experience mentoring or leading technical capability uplift in teams
• Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service management frameworks
• Certifications (desirable):
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect
• Terraform Associate, CKA, or equivalent
• ITIL Foundation or risk/governance credentials
