TARGETED VACANCY
Identified Role: For this position, it is a genuine occupation requirement that it is filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person, as set out in Section 7 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) for the purposes in Section 25 of that Act. For the Cultural Liaison Officer roles within the High Risk Offender Management Unit, they must be filled by a male to be culturally appropriate.
The CLO will provide support, engagement and connection to a cohort of male first nations DPSOA offenders both from Wacol and the broader SEQ areas.
• The role will involve in person, direct engagement with male first nations offenders who have been convicted of serious sexual offences, committed against adults and children, and who present with several clinical diagnoses, including personality disorders and cognitive impairments and whom have diverse cultural backgrounds.
• The CLO will be exposed to written and verbal material regarding sexual offending and will at times be required to engage in discussions about sexual matters with these offenders.
• The primary goal of HROMU is to protect the community safety by effectively supervising and monitoring compliance with stringent supervision orders, whilst engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to secure suitable and safe reintegration opportunities for offenders.

In this role you will:
• Contribute to case management activities, both directly and by supporting and liaising with Community Corrections staff to enhance case management and cultural competency.
• Work with Case Managers to identify and build their cultural connections in the community to ensure supervised individual's social needs are met.
• Ensure the timely provision of services and advice to the Courts, Parole Board, and other agencies regarding supervised individual.
• Develop connections and relationships with other members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities in order to work collaboratively with Case Managers if issues arise during a supervised individual's order period.
• Work with key personnel to source and develop brief intervention to support meaningful client interactions.
• Support Community Corrections staff to work in a culturally competent way with family members to help support and encourage those on Orders to successfully contribute to their community in a positive way.
• Work with Case Managers to link those on Orders with services and programs to assist them to live a life away from crime.
• Support Program Delivery Officers to facilitate programs that will help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals reintegrate into their communities and family networks.
• Initiate, encourage and facilitate greater engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups to promote Community Corrections involvement in culturally significant meetings, forums, events and festivals such as NAIDOC Week. Including the promotion of these events withing the staff group.
• Assist Community Corrections staff to access culturally relevant information that may help support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals.
Identified Role: * This is a targeted recruitment process open only to male applicants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. This occupational requirement is permitted under Section 25, 104, 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 to ensure culturally appropriate and safe service delivery in this role.
