About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an early career civil engineer who is interested in an opportunity to advance skills in Civil Design. This is a specialist role using 12d and Autocad software for which we'll provide on-the-job and formal training. This will provide an excellent grounding for your future career providing a thorough understanding of civil design including earthworks, roadworks, stormwater, pavements, water and sewer reticulation.

At least one (1) year of industry experience is preferred.

As this is a specialist role it is anticipated that you would focus on developing your design skills for a period of 2 to 4 years. You could then continue to focus on the Civil Design Engineer role through the next phase of your career, or move into other specialties such as traffic engineering, stormwater, or flood modelling for example, or transition to a project and client management role. As you learn the skills required for the design engineer role you will also be exposed to the construction stage of the projects you have designed, where you'll gain an understanding of how the decisions made in the design phase impact the efficiency of construction.

About You

The successful applicant will have the following qualification and traits:

  • Recently graduated, or soon to graduate, with Bachelor Engineering (Hons)
  • Live on the Sunshine Coast (or keen to relocate)
  • Keen interest in taking on the specialised design engineer role

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering design and drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 12d and related software
  • Support the design of grading, drainage, utilities, and roadway layouts
  • Conduct basic engineering calculations and assist in quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
  • Compile technical data and assist in preparing reports and permit applications
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to design discussions
  • Coordinate with other design team members including survey, environmental, and planning
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal design codes and standards
  • Contribute to quality control and assurance processes during design phases
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of engineering projects
  • Collaborate with senior engineers & designers to ensure project objectives are met.

Field Work

  • Attend site inspections where required to assist contractor
  • Visit sites prior to design to observe site constraints or opportunities.
