The Role:We are looking for a proactive Corporate Counsel to join our in-house Legal team.  Reporting to the Manager Legal Servicesyou'll provide expert legal advice across a range of commercial and specialised legislative matters, helping COEX deliver on its strategic and operational objectives.

  • Contract Management – Draft, review and negotiate a variety of agreements and contracts, ensuring legal risks are managed effectively while supporting business objectives and operational efficiency.
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution – Support the management of legal disputes, oversee external legal services, and support fraud investigation governance to protect COEX's reputation and interests.
  • Strategic Legal Advice – Deliver clear, pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders, with a primary focus on Scheme contracts and compliance with the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 (Qld).
  • Governance & Compliance – Help maintain and enhance COEX's legal risk frameworks, governance policies, and compliance processes to uphold regulatory standards and mitigate business risks.

What you will bring:

  • Admitted or eligible to be admitted legal practitioner in Queensland
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a law firm and / or in-house legal team
  • A values led, stakeholder focused approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence presenting advice across all levels of the organisation.
  • Negotiation skills which can traverse both legal and financial/commercial issues.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver pragmatic, cost-effective legal solutions.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, building and maintaining internal and external relationships.
  • An enjoyment of collaborative environments and an insightful, solutions focused approach.
  • A Blue Card, or ability to obtain one through COEX, when appointed.
