About the Role
Alcoa's Exploration business unit is seeking an experienced Exploration Systems Specialist to join our team in Huntly, Western Australia. This role is critical to the success of our large-scale exploration drilling programs, which generate thousands of data points daily across vast areas. The primary function of this role is to apply your knowledge of the Microsoft Power Platform, to design, implement, and maintain the systems for field data collection, processing, and reporting for the Exploration team.
This role will be offered on a family friend Monday to Friday working roster based at our Huntly Mine site, with a paid leisure day off every 4-week period so you can spend more time doing the things you love.
Key Responsibilities
- Development of new technologies and maintenance of current systems to ensure the efficient and secure collection, validation and processing of data, which is essential for the success of exploration programs.
- Building and maintaining data collection and process Apps that integrate seamlessly with other systems like GIS and AcQuire.
- Generating and maintaining Power BI reports for the Exploration department.
- Applying business improvement methodologies to identify and quantify opportunities for enhanced performance through data analysis.
- Working with operators and field personnel to ensure they are trained in the latest technology and troubleshoot issues with Software and hardware.
- Become the department contact for GIS applications and training.
A willingness to engage in field inspections is essential to develop a strong understanding of the operating environment and the challenges it presents for the maintenance of hardware and support of software. This understanding will strengthen your problem solving capability and drive a strong customer support focus.

What you can bring to the role
- A degree in Computer Science, Geospatial Sciences, or a related field, or a degree in Geology with significant experience in geological data management and the Microsoft Power Platform.
- Experience in a mining or exploration environment, with demonstrated experience in digital data collection and applying GPS and GIS technologies.
- Experience with GIS, and AcQuire (or similar database) software.
- Strong applied knowledge of Python and SQL or similar scripting tools.
- Experience with database management, particularly SQL Server and T-SQL.
- Demonstrated training and coaching skills to ensure operator competency and facilitate the adoption of new workflows.
- Experience as a Power Platform Developer (PowerApps, Power BI, and Power Automate).
Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise/Pro is desired but not essential. If the incumbent has this experience, they will become the "GIS Champion" for the Exploration team and take on additional responsibilities, such as maintaining Exploration projects.

About the Location
Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery. Bauxite ore from Alcoa's Huntly and Willowdale mines helps to produce almost half of Australia's alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia's aluminium.
