Support Worker – Complex Needs & Behaviours | Hurlstone Park NSW

About the Role

Montessori Care is seeking skilled and confident Support Workers to provide consistent, trauma-informed care to two teenage participants with complex behavioural needs in Hurlstone Park. The ideal candidate will bring a calm, structured, and firm-but-kind presence to support their day-to-day routines and long-term goals.

This role involves working with participants who:

  • Experience complex behaviours and benefit from calm, consistent supervision
  • Use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices due to limited verbal communication
  • May show signs of impulsivity, agitation, or difficulty adjusting to changes in routine
  • Require respectful assistance with personal care and daily regulation strategies

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and structured in-home support
  • Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation techniques
  • Work in alignment with positive behaviour support plans
  • Support safe community participation (with 2:1 support when needed)
  • Prepare simple meals and help with domestic routines
  • Communicate respectfully with participants, families, and coordinators

Schedule

  • 4 days/week (ideally Tuesday to Friday)
  • 4 hours/day (approx. 2:30pm–6:30pm)
  • Immediate start available
  • Location: Hurlstone Park, NSW

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience supporting individuals with complex needs
  • Understanding of restrictive practices and behaviour risk management
  • Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Strong, calm communicator with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Autism, intellectual disability, and trauma-informed support (preferred)
  • Prior use of AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) tools (preferred)
