About the role:

You'll support investigations, prosecutions, and civil litigation, while providing high-quality legal advice across regulatory and corporate matters. Your work will contribute to strategic enforcement outcomes and help shape Victoria's environmental future.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and support litigation in VCAT and the Supreme Court.
  • Manage a caseload of criminal and civil enforcement proceedings.
  • Appear in court and draft legal advice across a range of matters.
  • Advise on regulatory activity including permissions, notices, and statutory powers.
  • Assist with criminal prosecutions and mentor junior staff.
  • Contribute to legal policy, FOI, and corporate legal affairs.
  • Collaborate across the legal team and contribute to team development.
  • Manage 1-2 direct reports and support broader mentoring within the team.

Skills and experience:

  • A degree in law and admission to practice as an Australian legal practitioner.
  • Minimum four years post-admission experience in a similar role, ideally within regulatory or government legal practice.
  • Strong knowledge of civil litigation, administrative law, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience advising on statutory powers, legal reviews, and enforcement matters.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal files and contribute to strategic legal outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clear, persuasive legal writing.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and team collaboration skills.
