Job Overview

You will join a team focused on building a new web product, developing new features and maintaining existing software. Our customer facing products are consumed via web applications (React) and API (REST) and work to leverage AWS cloud services built using Typescript, Terraform, and Java. We practise custodianship: the team is responsible for the solutions they deliver. The existing team is making a transition to leaning on the cloud, and you will be expected to help the team on this journey.

Your knowledge and experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), AWS, Terraform, Java, TypeScript, Lambda, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, APIs and Git will be crucial to our success. Additionally, your experience in delivery of end-to-end solutions, agile methodologies, CI/CD, DevSecOps, QA and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) will help us accelerate our delivery.

Key Responsibilities

● Design, develop, and deploy scalable, reliable, and secure cloud solutions for our SaaS product.

● Utilise AWS services including IAM, Route53, CloudFront, S3, Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, EKS, SQS, SNS, SES, and EventBridge to name a few.

● Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate the provisioning and management of AWS infrastructure.

● Develop API first backend services using Java Spring Boot and Typescript.

● Design and manage databases using PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.

● Deploy and manage containerised applications using Docker, Kubernetes and Flux.

● Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define cloud architecture and implement best practices.

● Apply SRE principles to monitor and optimise cloud environments to ensure optimal performance and reliability with Splunk Observability.

● Implement DevSecOps best practices to streamline development, testing, and deployment processes including CI/CD processes.

● Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends to recommend improvements.

● Provide technical guidance and support to team members in all areas of the technology stack

Qualifications

● At least five years experience as a Software Engineer or similar role, working on

SaaS products.

● Proficiency in AWS services and architecture, including Route53, CloudFront, S3,

Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, SES, and EventBridge.

● Strong experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

● Proficiency in developing RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.

● Solid understanding of PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.

● Experience in Git for version control.

● Experience writing tests and TDD

● Experience with EDA

● Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

● Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Additional Qualifications

● AWS certification (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer, etc.).

● Familiarity with the AWS Well-Architected Framework and its six pillars

● Experience with serverless computing and microservices architecture.

● Understanding of networking concepts and security best practices in the cloud.

● Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools especially GitLab Pipelines.

● Familiarity with agile delivery, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

● Knowledge of additional programming and scripting languages.
