ABOUT ROLE

We are looking for a passionate Solicitor to join our Family and Criminal Law Department. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative team, handling a broad range of matters while developing your advocacy and client management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising and representing clients in family law matters such as divorce, parenting arrangements, property settlements, and intervention orders;
  • Interview clients to understand their legal needs, provide advice on legal matters, and communicate with opposing parties and counsels to execute client instructions effectively;
  • Managing criminal defence cases across the Magistrates' and higher courts;
  • Preparing and reviewing court documents and legal correspondence;
  • Representing clients at hearings, mediations, and negotiations; and
  • Providing clear, practical legal advice to clients from varied cultural backgrounds.

About You

You are a motivated and detail-oriented lawyer who takes ownership of your work and communicates effectively with clients and colleagues alike. To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A bachelor's degree in law or Juris Doctor degree A valid practising certificate as a solicitor in Victoria
  • At least 1 year post-admission experience in family law and/or criminal law;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, and fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese (or both preferred);
  • Sound advocacy, negotiation, and drafting skills; and
  • A practical, client-focused approach and the ability to manage files independently.
