Role Overview
As Clinician – Client Assist, you will work within the Client Assist Contact Centre, providing high-quality telephone-based services to veterans and their families. This role includes intake, assessment, triage, brief counselling, and referrals to specialist services. You'll be part of a supportive, diverse team in a 24/7 rostered environment, operating across a hybrid work model (office and home).

You are an experienced mental health professional with strong assessment, counselling, and crisis intervention skills. You thrive in dynamic environments, can manage competing priorities, and bring a trauma-informed, client-centred approach to your work. Your background may be in psychology, social work, nursing, counselling, or occupational therapy, and you are committed to professional growth and collaboration. Importantly, you must be an
Australian Citizen
and able to obtain and maintain a
Baseline Vetting security clearance
.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality clinical support over the phone, ensuring adherence to policies and clinical practice standards.
- Provide intake, assessment, triage, risk management, and short-term counselling services to clients.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including care plans, progress notes, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with families, treatment providers, and other stakeholders to ensure continuity of care.
- Contribute to case reviews, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development.
- Respond effectively to critical incidents and escalate risk appropriately.
- Demonstrate APS values and contribute to a positive and safe team culture.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practice and client-centred care.
- Demonstrated experience in mental health service delivery, including intake, assessment, and brief intervention.
- High-level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage risk and respond to critical incidents in a calm, effective manner.
- Strong IT skills with the ability to navigate systems confidently.
- Mandatory registration or membership with AHPRA, AASW, PACFA, or ACA (as relevant to qualification).
- Must be an
Australian Citizen
with the ability to obtain and maintain a
Baseline security clearance
. - Ability to obtain Working with Vulnerable People/Working with Children checks as required.
