Newcastle Maitland Hunter, Australia Workfast Full time $109,440 per year

Workfast is looking for a hands-on and reliable Trade Assistant to work out of the Newcastle Airport for a 3 week project.

Location: Newcastle Airport

Pay Rate: $53.20 per hour (Nigh shift rate) + Overtime + Super

Hours: Monday to Friday, 10pm to 4am

Start Date: ASAP

This is a long-established and highly respected service and maintenance provider to freight rail rolling stock operators, known for flexibility and quality workmanship.This is a practical, shop floor-based role offering consistent full-time hours and the potential to transition into a permanent position. Full on-the-job training will be provided.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assist mechanical fitters and other trades in the installation, servicing, and repair of conveyor belts and associated equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools for basic assembly, disassembly, and adjustments.
  • Help with moving, positioning, and securing mechanical components.
  • Carry out general labouring duties including cleaning work areas, sweeping, and removing debris.
  • Assist in lifting and moving heavy parts safely using appropriate equipment.
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures, including correct PPE usage.
  • Support trades in diagnosing mechanical faults and preparing tools and materials for the job.
  • Work in accordance with site and airport security protocols.

About You

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or workshop environment
  • Must have a Forklift ticket
  • Competency with hand, air, and power tools
  • Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks
  • Safety-conscious and reliable
  • Strong team player with good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
