The Opportunity
Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Mechanic to join their team.
Reporting to the Leading Hand Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of Council's vehicles, machinery and plant. The main duties of this position will involve repairs, maintenance and servicing on a range of Council vehicles, including Council's light vehicles, trucks and heavy earth moving vehicles, minor plan and workshop equipment.
More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Repair and maintenance of a wide range of vehicles
- Repair and maintenance of minor plant and workshop equipment
- Monitoring of the condition of machines and vehicles
- Installation and removal of vehicle accessories, including two-way radios etc
- Fabrication and welding, as required
- Operation and maintenance of specialised equipment, including lifting and welding equipment and tools
- Assist in the provision of on the job training of Apprentices, as required
The successful candidates will meet the following criteria:
- Trade licenced qualification in Motor Mechanics, Plant Mechanics, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or Automotive Engineering
- Demonstrated experience and sound knowledge in mechanical maintenance and repairs
- Class MR Drivers Licence or willing to obtain
- Minimum two years' experience as a licenced mechanic
- Demonstrated understanding of Work Health & Safety
- Commitment to the principals of honesty and integrity
In addition, an ideal candidate would have:
- Knowledge of diesel engines
- Demonstrated mechanic experience on trucks, machinery and plant
- HC Truck drivers licence
- WHS Induction for General Construction Ticket (Whitecard)

- Between $1,262.68 and $1,396.12 per week (inclusive of market premium allowance) depending on your skills, qualifications and experience
