The Role
Reporting to the Manager Facilities and Leasing, this role leads the management of Council's diverse facilities portfolio, including aquatic centres, caravan parks, aerodromes, community halls, CCTV networks, and corporate buildings. With a focus on capital delivery, operations, and strategic asset management, the position ensures facilities are safe, sustainable, and aligned with Council's long-term goals. The role also supports property and leasing opportunities, oversees renewals and upgrades, and manages operational contracts to optimise efficiency and community benefit. As part of the leadership team, the Principal will drive workplace safety, collaboration, and cultural transformation, fostering a high-performing and customer-focused environment.
About You
You will bring a strong blend of qualifications and experience in facilities, asset, property, or project management, supported by transferable tertiary or post-secondary qualifications in a relevant field. With at least five years' experience – and ideally ten or more – you have a proven track record of transforming facilities management functions within government, community, or service-oriented organisations, from operational through to strategic levels.
Your ability to build strong relationships and engage with a wide range of stakeholders is one of your key strengths, along with well-developed negotiation, analytical, research, and report-writing skills. You also possess an excellent understanding of the legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures that underpin facilities operations and programs, complemented by a current Queensland Class C Driver Licence.
