  • Residential role based in Gladstone

About Your Role
Join Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) as a Civil/Structural Cadet Engineer and kick-start your career with real-world experience. In this two-year fixed-term role, you'll work alongside industry professionals on major civil engineering projects in a dynamic industrial setting. Designed to complement your university studies, this opportunity will help you build valuable technical, project management, and communication skills to set you up for future success.

Through the QAL Cadetship Program, you'll follow a structured development pathway tailored for high-potential civil engineering students. Delivered in partnership with Central Queensland University, this program builds your practical skills and career readiness, setting you up to apply for permanent positions at QAL through our Graduate Programs.

As a cadet on our team, you'll gain hands-on experience and contribute meaningfully by:

  • Assisting with design and drafting using AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D
  • Supporting fieldwork such as site inspections and data collection
  • Helping prepare technical reports, drawings, and project documentation
  • Collaborating with experienced engineers, project managers, and stakeholders
  • Contributing to real engineering solutions that make a lasting impact

What We're Looking For
To be considered for this opportunity, you should:

  • Be currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering degree at CQ University (preferably 2nd year or above)
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance and a keen eagerness to learn
  • Show a strong commitment to safety for yourself and your team
  • Have a basic understanding of engineering principles and experience with relevant design software
  • Possess excellent written and interpersonal communication

What's On Offer
We believe a fulfilling life goes beyond the workplace. That's why we offer a range of benefits to support both your personal and professional development—helping you grow your career while maintaining a healthy work–life balance.

  • Flexible working hours to accommodate your CQ University study commitments
  • A work environment where safety is always our number one priority
  • A competitive salary package
  • Accelerated career development opportunities designed to support your goals – whether your aiming for a technical specialty or a leadership role
