Primary objective
To build a sustainable medical workforce pipeline by ensuring excellence in prevocational education, training, and assessment—supporting
and safeguarding the health of Territorians
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the implementation and management of prevocational accreditation across the Northern Territory.
2. Drive strategic planning and foster collaborative internal and external partnerships to support the continuous improvement of PMAS
functions.
3. Oversee governance and policy development to ensure PMAS activities comply with all relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks,
and organisational policies.
4. Provide leadership in change management, including the implementation of systems, governance structures, and work practices aligned
with the Australian Medical Council National Framework for prevocational medical training.
5. Identify and assess organisational impacts, ensuring that compliance, risk, benefits, and opportunities are thoroughly considered in all
initiatives.
6. Manage externally funded resources, including budget oversight, communication strategies, and reporting obligations.
7. Enhance the visibility and influence of PMAS by representing the service at key committees, forums, and events.
8. Deliver high-level strategic advice and comprehensive reporting on all matters related to PMAS operations.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
10. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive expertise in developing and managing systems that support health workforce regulation.
2. Proven experience in program delivery across national, regional, and remote settings, with a strong understanding of contextual
challenges and solutions.
3. Advanced strategic, conceptual, and analytical capabilities, including sound judgment in risk management, and the ability to prioritise,
organise, and resolve complex and competing issues.
4. In-depth knowledge and experience in accreditation, change management, and continuous improvement within large, complex, and
diverse organisations.
5. Exceptional communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal—with demonstrated ability to engage, negotiate, influence, and
solve problems at a high level, supported by strong presentation and report-writing expertise.
6. Proven ability to collaborate, consult, and coordinate effectively across organisations and with national and jurisdictional stakeholders,
including demonstrated cultural competence in working with diverse populations.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline to the position.
2. Comprehensive understanding of prevocational medical accreditation and the Australian Medical Council national framework for
prevocational medical training.
