Position Information

The Hills School at Northmead, is a caring and supportive learning community providing quality educational programs for students with a diverse range of learning needs, from Kindergarten to Year 12. The Hills School caters for 115 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, which may include physical disabilities, sensory impairments or Autism Spectrum Disorder. 76% of students have a language background other than English and 3% of our students are Aboriginal.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria approval to teach special education and/or successful experience teaching for students with special education needs.

  1. Demonstrated capacity to lead innovative, data informed teaching and learning practices to support student growth and attainment.

  2. Capacity and experience to lead, support and grow teachers to deliver high quality personalised learning and embed communication supports in a culture of high expectations.

  3. Ability to lead and manage challenging situations including complex behaviour and health care, through collaboration, problem-solving, and effective communication.

General Selection Criteria
  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
