About the role:

Our client. the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is looking to engage an enthusiastic Senior Network Engineer to join the Modern Workplace Program.   They will join a skilled multi-disciplinary team to develop the current and future state network architecture. The successful candidate will participate in section planning for short term tasks and contribute to strategic planning for long term initiatives of the AEC. The role will assist the AEC's transition to Cloud as part of the AEC. Work as part of a BAU team or Agile Delivery Teams or the System Team.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Role will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Help develop the current and future state of the network architecture;
  • Participate in section planning for short term tasks and contribute to strategic planning for long term initiatives;
  • Assist with the transition to Cloud services; and
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required and directed by the relevant Director/Team Leader;
About the project:

Indigo Program (Tranche 2)

The Indigo Program is a large-scale transformation program to modernise business capabilities and replace core election ICT systems with a citizen-centric, agile technology platform. The Program will transform the AEC's delivery of electoral services and ensure ongoing integrity of the electoral system. Tranche 2 comprises a variety of work packages with a focus on business process re-engineering, data management, legislative compliance and replacing aging systems.

Essential criteria:


• Demonstrated ability to proactively monitor, maintain, and optimise network infrastructure to ensure peak performance. Proficient in the installation, configuration, upgrade, and troubleshooting of networks, including effective resolution of critical incidents. Experienced in managing Layer 2 networks, such as VLANs, trunks, and spanning-tree protocols.


•Experienced with Microsoft Azure, including setting up virtual machines, SQL, Active Directory, and cloud storage. Skilled in using PowerShell, managing Group Policies, DHCP, DNS, and NPS.


•Can suggest better ways to run networks and understands how to keep them secure. Strong knowledge of Windows, networking, cloud services, and the ISM and Essential 8 security standards.


•Can clearly explain technical ideas and work well with people in different locations. Good at working with all team members and helping others work together.


•Comfortable working with teams in different places and values teamwork, mentoring, and building a positive work environment.

Honest and focused on achieving results while following rules and policies.


•Has worked in higher-level IT support, preferably in large organisations. Great at solving problems, paying attention to detail, and working both alone and with others.

Desirable criteria:


•A relevant bachelor's degree or higher qualification.


•At least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may substitute for the formal qualification


•Experience Configuring and maintaining FortiGate firewalls


•Experience configuring Dynamic Routing Protocols such as BGP, OSPF


•Experience deploying and maintaining DWDM optical networks


•Experience troubleshooting L4-7 application performance problems


•Experience maintaining DNS and DHCP network infrastructure


•Knowledge in Cloud Networking
