Primary objective

As a member of a small team undertake tax assessments, provide advice to taxpayers and their advisers and administer own-

source revenue and home incentive schemes, including managing debt recovery and conduct compliance and audit activities

and support tax and royalty payers with meeting their revenue obligations.

Context statement

The Territory Revenue Office administers and provides advice on the Territory's tax and royalty laws and related grant,

concessions incentive schemes, delivers education programs to professional industry groups, ensures appropriate policies

and systems are in place to promote voluntary compliance, undertakes compliance and audit activities, and undertakes

research and develops policy and legislation.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Analyse and resolve routine and more complex revenue matters in a timely manner.

2. Participate in delivery of stakeholder education programs.

3. Assist in researching or providing advice on technical revenue matters.

4. Engage with stakeholders on complex or sensitive revenue related issues.

5. Participate in implementation of compliance or policy projects, revenue administration or reviewing revenue decisions.

6. Monitor and analyse emerging business practices that have potential revenue implications.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Sound conceptual, research and analytical skills with the capacity to quickly understand and assimilate new information.

2. High level of accuracy, attention to detail and work ethic.

3. Sound interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

4. Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policies.

5. Ability to manage a broad range of tasks, achieve outcomes and meet deadlines independently and in a team environment.

6. High degree of integrity and understanding of the requirements of dealing with confidential information.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in law, commerce, accounting or a related discipline.

  2. Assist in the development and implementation of the work unit's business plans, policies and practices.

  3. Engage with stakeholders on technically complex or sensitive revenue related issues.

  4. Build and maintain stakeholder relationships and represent the unit on national working groups.

  5. Monitor emerging business practices and assist in the provision of advice to senior management relating to revenue

policy.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Highly developed conceptual, analytical and research skills and experience in preparing high level reports and

submissions.

  1. Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive, quality advice within tight timeframes.
  2. Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills of a high order.

  3. Strong ability and experience in the interpretation and application of legislation and policies.

  4. Demonstrated supervisory and organisational skills, including the ability to plan, program and coordinate projects to meet

deadlines and achieve outcomes.

6. High degree of integrity and understanding of the requirements of dealing with confidential information
