About the Role
The Foundation Studies program provides international students with Year 12-equivalent studies to prepare for their subsequent undergraduate studies at Flinders University. The casual role of approximately 6 to 12 hours per week is for an English for Academic Purposes teacher with appropriate experience at preparing international students for higher education and is required for Trimester 3, starting October 13. You will work as part of a small team of dedicated educators in the implementation of a cutting-edge Foundation Studies pathway program. You will provide small group teaching and assessment in a contemporary setting. Supporting the Foundation Studies Lead Teacher, you will help ensure the Academy's Foundation Studies program provides the best academic foundation for students across their academic careers.
More specifically, you will be expected to:
- Deliver inspiring and innovative Foundation Studies teaching informed by an understanding of pedagogical best practice in the field.
- Utilise a variety of face-to-face and digital teaching tools to provide a superior learning experience for international students.
- Prepare, conduct, and give feedback on assessments based on provided criteria and policies.
Other responsibilities may include:
- Actively contribute to the social and cultural development of the academy's student body, including supporting and participating in social and cultural activities
About the Person
You will be a creative, engaged and results focused educator who is passionate about supporting your students and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment in which they and your colleagues can thrive. You will have demonstrated experience working with international students, including the ability to communicate appropriately in a cross-cultural working environment.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Appropriate qualifications to be a Foundation Studies English language teacher as per National Standards, which require:
- hold a minimum of a 3-year Bachelor degree;
- hold an English language teaching qualification; and
have at least two years ESL/EFL teaching experience
Demonstrated familiarity with contemporary teaching methodologies and best practice, including a familiarity with online learning principles and tools. A knowledge of the CANVAS learning management system would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegiate environment and to develop and achieve shared goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to provide effective one-on-one support and counselling to international students with complex needs.
Prescribed Conditions for Employment
It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
