They operate some of Australia's most technologically advanced container terminals at four strategically located ports around the Australian coast handling over three million TEU per annum. Their terminal network includes Brisbane Autostrad Terminal, Sydney Autostrad Terminal, East Swanson Dock Terminal (Melbourne) and Fremantle Container Terminal.

The Role

Working closely with the Chief Finance Officer, the Chief Strategy, Development, and Legal Officer, the Risk and Governance Manager is a pivotal role responsible for developing and maintaining strong risk management processes across organisational governance and compliance matters. The position is a hands-on and a highly involved role, effectively managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and respond to the evolving governance and market landscape. Working within a lean corporate team, you will take ownership and accountability, work autonomously, and have a background in, and strong understanding of risk management controls.

To be successful in the role, you will have a demonstrated background in developing and maintaining flexible and responsive governance frameworks and ideally have experience in driving organisational change to respond to new requirements across areas including sustainability reporting and security of critical infrastructure.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee business-wide risk management processes and controls including security of critical infrastructure, sustainability, cyber security, and other key governance requirements.
  • Ongoing governance of sustainability reporting, with continuous development of frameworks to meet ongoing and expanding requirements.
  • Development and maintenance of frameworks for the security of critical infrastructure and cyber governance, and implementation of key deliverables across the business.
  • Successfully leverage specialist resources to ensure specific regulatory requirements are integrated into risk management and governance frameworks, and processes and controls are in place.
  • Lead and implement internal auditing program and own the close out of recommendations and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare documentation and materials for board and committee meetings and audit processes.
  • Support shareholder reporting and governance requirements in line with business needs.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to align to best practice and changing regulatory requirements.
  • Provide advice and leadership on risk management practices and legislative/regulatory obligations.

Required Skills and Proficiencies

You are naturally pragmatic and enjoy leveraging your collaborative approach to drive impact across the organisation.

In addition to your superior written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Corporate Governance, Risk Management, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar position in a lean corporate structure
  • Strong knowledge of governance and risk management frameworks, processes and best practices.
  • Background in developing and maintaining flexible and responsive governance frameworks.
  • Experience in driving organisational change.
  • Demonstrated experience in sustainability reporting, critical infrastructure and other key governance areas.
  • Strategic thinker with big picture understanding of key issues impacting the business.
  • Knowledge of shipping, container logistics and the broader supply chain industry beneficial.
  • Exposure to heavy industry such as logistics, manufacturing and mining is beneficial, but not essential.
