As a Senior Scientist within the Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting program (Paddock to Reef), you will lead the Wetland natural values for climate change and water quality benefit project. Based in the Tully region, the wetlands project is an on-ground paddock monitoring field trial which collects fundamental data, including carbon, soil, greenhouse gas, hydrological, biochemical, biological and constituent loads (nutrient, pesticide, and sediment) from a natural palustrine wetland to improve process understanding, and facilitate decision making tools and wetland model construction. This role will also be involved in the development of a tree cropping paddock monitoring trial in Bundaberg that will deliver similar datasets. We're looking for an innovative person with a holistic data mind and wetland process expertise to join our team and lead the wetland monitoring project. Specifically, in

this role, you will:

• Provide specialist scientific leadership and advice to support the paddock monitoring component of Paddock to Reef program and other departmental

initiatives.

• Install and maintain specialist equipment, collect and process air, soil, water and plant samples, analyse data, interpret results and report your findings.

• Contribute to the provision of technical and scientific advice from the Paddock to Reef program in line with Departmental and client priorities.

• Contribute to the strategic objectives of the department, by providing professional leadership on:

o the technical development of the of Paddock to Reef paddock monitoring program;

o the development of and water quality management strategies and policies;

o the preparation of project plans and the management of projects; and

o the provision of technical services and activities on land and water processes relevant to Reef Sciences and the department.

• Manage highly qualified and innovative work teams and individuals within the Reef Science and Water and Catchments program through strategic and operational planning including the effective and efficient utilisation of human resources, assets and finances.

• Lead workforce planning activities, performance appraisal, skills development and training programs and fulfil workplace safety and equal employment opportunity obligations.

• Provide comprehensive, high quality scientific and technical information and advice to management; other state, national and local government agencies; policy makers; industry; the community and other clients, on contemporary land and water management issues, legislation and associated policy.

• Collaborate on projects with the Australian and Queensland Governments, industry, collaborators, universities, contractors and clients to ensure project

objectives and outcomes are achieved and fit for purpose

• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
