Job Title: Heavy Diesel Fitter

Location: Western Australia (FIFO/DIDO options available)

Position Type: Full-Time / Permanent / Casual

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Position Overview:

As a Heavy Diesel Fitter, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy diesel-powered equipment, including trucks, buses, bulldozers, and other earthmoving machinery.

This role ensures that all equipment operates efficiently and safely, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspection & Diagnostics: Conduct regular inspections to identify mechanical and electrical faults in heavy diesel vehicles and equipment. Utilize diagnostic tools to assess engine performance and system integrity.

  • Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine servicing, overhauls, and repairs on engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and hydraulic components.

  • Component Replacement: Dismantle, repair, and reassemble engine components, ensuring all parts meet manufacturer specifications.

  • Welding & Fabrication: Use welding techniques (oxy, electric, TIG, MIG) to repair or fabricate parts as needed.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks to prevent equipment breakdowns and extend the lifespan of machinery.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and time spent.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Trade Qualification: Completion of a Certificate III in Heavy Diesel Mechanics or equivalent, recognized in Australia.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy diesel-powered equipment.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Australian driver's license.

  • Forklift license (desirable) but not required.

  • Additional certifications such as Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, and White Card are advantageous.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Experience with welding and fabrication.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

  • Roster: 8 days on and 6 days off, with occasional weekend work as required.

  • Environment: Work will be conducted both in a workshop setting and on-site, which may include exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy components, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks that require physical stamina.
