The Production Finance Analyst is responsible for supporting the accurate financial management of visual effects projects within a studio environment, acting as a vital link between the Finance and Production teams. This role involves tracking and analysing project costs, maintaining cost reports, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring the timely flow of financial information to support project delivery. The Production Finance Analyst plays a key role in aligning production progress with financial performance, enabling producers and studio leadership to make informed decisions.

With a deep understanding of VFX production finance workflows, this role contributes to the integrity of project budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning, while also assisting the broader Finance team with reporting, reconciliations, and month-end processes. They bring analytical rigour and operational awareness to the creative environment, ensuring financial data is accurate, timely, and actionable. This position requires close collaboration, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset, contributing to both project success and the studio's overall financial health.

This is a hands-on position ideal for someone with a strong accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for the creative industries.

CORE DELIVERABLES
Project Financial Execution
As a key support role across VFX productions, the Production Finance Analyst is responsible for ensuring the financial accuracy and operational alignment of multiple projects through hands-on data management, cost tracking, and reporting.

  • Track and maintain up-to-date production cost data, working closely with Producers and Finance to ensure accurate forecasting and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Producers and Senior Production Accountant to monitor budget progress, analyse actuals vs. budget/ETCs, and flag potential overruns or inefficiencies.
  • Assist in preparation of project-specific reports, including weekly cost updates, burn rate analysis, and production performance metrics.
  • Support the integration of financial and production data to ensure alignment between project execution and financial outcomes.

Reporting, Forecasting & Metrics
The Production Finance Analyst is central to the preparation and delivery of accurate, actionable reporting that supports decision-making at both the project and studio levels.

  • Generate and deliver weekly and month-end reports for internal stakeholders, including Producers, Finance, and Executives.
  • Support cashflow forecasting by tracking project timelines, client billing schedules, and payment milestones.
  • Assist in compiling end-of-month and end-of-year financial packages, ensuring data is audit-ready and compliant with internal standards.
  • Manage and reconcile production data from systems such as ShotGrid and timesheets to inform workforce and cost metrics.

Process, Systems & Compliance
This role supports the ongoing improvement of tools, workflows, and documentation across Production Finance operations, while ensuring compliance with internal standards and audit readiness.

  • Assist in the enhancement of reporting templates, tracking tools, and cost reporting systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain consistent and organised documentation for all production-related financial data and correspondence.
  • Ensure compliance with studio policies, including timesheet accuracy, TOIL/overtime tracking, and financial record-keeping.
  • Support Finance leadership in the provision of audit-quality documentation and the implementation of process improvements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
Operating at the intersection of Production and Finance, the Production Finance Analyst is a critical link between departments, helping ensure shared visibility and timely data flow.

  • Liaise with Producers and Coordinators to ensure production activity is accurately captured in financial reports.
  • Communicate updates, issues, and blockers clearly to the Senior Financial Accountant or Financial Controller, supporting the proactive resolution of risks.
  • Collaborate with the Shared Services team to coordinate reconciliations, data alignment, and process consistency across global teams.
  • Contribute to a culture of clear communication, professionalism, and accountability across teams and stakeholders.

Team Support & Studio Contribution
As part of a small and collaborative Finance team, the Production Finance Analyst is expected to show initiative, flexibility, and a solutions-focused mindset in support of team and studio objectives.

  • Provide backup assistance across the Finance team during periods of high demand or absence, including task-sharing and documentation support.
  • Manage and prioritise personal workload effectively, adjusting to evolving project needs and delegated tasks as required.
  • Proactively seek feedback, contribute to process improvement discussions, and support knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Where requested, assist with recruitment activities, team onboarding, or feedback discussions to support the development of a high-performing Finance function.

This list is not exhaustive. Additional expected deliverables may be assigned as necessary to fulfil the requirements of your role.

Required Competencies

  • 2-5 years of relevant finance or accounting experience, ideally within film, TV, VFX, animation, or a creative production environment.

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (e.g. pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formula auditing).
  • Experience with accounting software and/or production tracking systems (e.g. ShotGrid, SAP, Netsuite, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of accruals, prepayments, cost coding, and general ledger principles.
  • Excellent organisational skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with both creative and financial stakeholders.
  • Willingness to assist with general finance team duties and contribute to a collaborative team environment, including cross-training, knowledge sharing, and supporting wider team processes as needed.
