POLITICO is seeking an editor to join the team covering European politics, based in Australia or New Zealand.

The role would suit an energetic and creative editor who enjoys setting the news agenda for an international audience.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of EU and UK politics, a strong news sense and hands-on editing and fact-checking skills. We're looking for a self-motivated editor or senior journalist with the ability to work independently in an international environment.

Working closely with a senior Australia-based editor, you will work on POLITICO's flagship Brussels and London Playbook newsletters and ensure our site looks fresh across time zones.

Responsibilities include copy editing, fact-checking, news planning and commissioning from reporters with various levels of experience.

The role will involve close coordination with our newsrooms in Brussels, London and the US.

This is a full-time, remote-working position under an independent contractor status.

What You'll Do

• Edit newsletters and stories;
• Fact-check copy ahead of publication;
• Carry out news planning to inform the day ahead in Europe;
• Commission stories to keep our site looking fresh;
• Provide feedback to reporters with various levels of experience;
• Generate distinctive and innovative ways to serve our readers;
• Coordinate coverage with editors and reporters in our newsrooms in Europe and the US.

What You'll Need

• Native-level English.
• Experience as an English-language editor;
• Strong interest in politics;
• Ability to work under pressure and on deadline;
• 5 years of newsroom experience minimum.
