At KCB, we pride ourselves on our global reputation for technical excellence and our innovative approach to solving complex problems. Our diverse and inclusive teams bring creative perspectives, and our size allows us to tackle exciting projects in a positive work environment. Our tagline, "Down to Earth / Up to the Challenge," reflects our values and approach.

KCB Australia Pty Ltd is expanding its water dam and hydropower portfolio, and we're seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help lead this growth. Based in Brisbane, you'll be part of our Power and Transportation Group, contributing to a range of projects including owners engineering roles, dam and hydropower rehabilitation, pumped hydro and new facility design, pump stations, and civil works for water resource developments.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Work with diverse teams across our offices of multidiscipline engineers, designers and drafters from preliminary investigations and conceptual design through preliminary design, final design, and construction.
  • Work collaboratively with our structural team in Australia and Canada.
  • As the Australia team grows, act as a mentor to junior / intermediate staff.
  • Write, compile, and review technical reports and fee proposals to clients
  • Act as a technical resource within a multidisciplinary project team that fosters career development.
  • Visit project sites, as required to gather information to contribute to engineering activities.

  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards.
  • Analytical skills with one or more computational tool – examples include AFT Fathom, Arrow, Impulse, AutoPIPE, SolidWorks.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, and Mathcad or equivalent would be an asset but proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel would be expected.

  • Working knowledge in one or several of the following areas:
  • Gates, stoplogs and associated hoist design.

  • Penstock design.
  • Piping and pumping design.
  • Cooling water, drainage, unwatering, brake and compressed air balance of plant systems design.
  • HVAC design, including smoke control in underground spaces.
  • Fire protection and detection systems.
  • Overhead crane specifications.
  • Turbine and governor equipment selection.

We value your:

  • Extensive experience delivering mechanical engineering design from concept through to final design for hydropower, transportation, and/or mining/resources projects.
  • Proven ability to lead and contribute to a variety of project scopes across these sectors
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, decision-making and coaching skills, especially your ability to train and mentor young professionals.
  • Passion for business development, strategic business planning, particularly in developing and growing a team.
  • Strong initiative, innovation and commitment to technical excellence as well as your enthusiasm and drive toward long-term success.
  • Ability and willingness to engage remotely with teams in offices around Australia and overseas and to work autonomously.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills including your experience in writing proposals, technical reports and general project correspondence.
  • Exceptional team spirit, interpersonal skills and your ability to build long-term, successful relationships with our clients and our project teams.
