The role

We are seeking a Scientific Assistant to provide laboratory support to food processors and producers in North Queensland. This is casual full-time ongoing position You will contribute to ensuring optimal food quality and safety for consumers, aligned with legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support microbiological services for tropical food industries, including media preparation, quality control, and routine testing.
  • Maintain laboratory standards through cleaning, equipment maintenance, and calibration.
  • Assist with sample management, from receipt to reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and enter data into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Identify client needs and provide service recommendations.
  • Perform laboratory tasks such as media preparation, waste decontamination, and equipment wash-up.
  • Assist with general operational support as required.

The candidate

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Science, Applied Science, or a similar field, or a willingness to pursue relevant studies.
  • International qualifications must be assessed for comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
  • A current 'C' class driver's license.
  • Work Hours: Vary from ad hoc to regular full-time hours based on candidate availability and work requirements. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, with occasional out-of-hours work.
