Who we are

The Digital Systems, Solutions and Sustainment (DSSS) Branch provides retail digital and data services for a range of different business areas across the Biosecurity and Compliance Group. The branch operates in an agile and continually evolving digital and data environment, which has unique challenges and opportunities. The branch is highly connected and integrated with relevant business areas in Biosecurity and Compliance Groups.

The Biosecurity Systems and Development Support (BSDS) section is responsible for the system administration, ongoing improvement and training functions for digital systems critical for the management of biosecurity risk into Australia. These systems facilitate industry and the public to import animals and goods into the country effectively, efficiently, and to biosecurity standards. BSDS also manages branch wide processes such as communications for system outages.

The Job

This role involves collaborating closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and business teams to align work with organisational goals. A Senior Developer is responsible for developing software components that deliver value to stakeholders and for implementing the necessary processes, systems, and functions to make new and enhanced services and features available for use.

Key duties and responsibilities for this role include:


• lead the design, development, and customisation of Dynamics 365 applications to meet business requirements


• continuously optimise existing Dynamics 365 solutions for performance, scalability, and maintainability


• design and implement seamless integrations between Dynamics 365 and other systems and cloud services


• provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers, guiding them in best practices and efficient development methodologies


• collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and ensure technology solutions align with organisational goals


• effectively work in a multi-disciplinary team with an ability to communicate in plain language about technology


• maintain comprehensive documentation of application architectures, designs, and development processes

The successful applicant must:

• This recruitment process will initially be used to fill two vacancies on an ongoing basis.


• This role is available on a full-time or part-time basis.


• The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

What we are looking for

Knowledge and experience

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge or experience:


• Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 technologies.


• Experience in Dynamics 365 and cloud application development and customisation.


• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.


• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.


• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.


• Experience in delivering projects on time and to a high-quality standard.


• Experience working in an Information Communication Technology (ICT) service support environment (desirable but not essential).


• Experience with cloud application development using platforms like Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud.


• Experience with front-end frameworks such as React, JavaScript, TypeScript, GraphQL and


• Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, JavaScript, and PowerShell.


• Strong knowledge of database design and SQL.


• Qualifications in Computer Science or a related field or related experience
