Speech Pathologist New Graduate Role 2026

Wynnum, Queensland, Australia Speechcare Full time $60,000 - $80,000 per year

New Graduate /Early Career Speech Pathologist

Position Title: Speech Pathologist Program: Speechcare New Graduate Program 2026 (January) Location: Wynnum Position Type: Full-time (24-months with potential for ongoing employment) Reports To: Clinical Lead / Senior Speech Pathologist

With 33 years in our community, 150 years' of combined experience, neurodiversity- affirming staff and leadership, Speechcare offers a completely transparent, supportive space for clinicians to truly discover their strengths and develop their skills.

At Speechcare, we know that the transition from university to clinical practice is a huge leap.

This reflects our philosophy: that the first year of practice should be an extension of your learning journey, not a sink-or-swim scenario. You will be:

  • Supported, not just supervised

  • Given protected time to reflect, upskill, and debrief

  • Encouraged to grow your identity as a clinician with confidence and authenticity

The Speechcare position provides the safety, structure, and support needed to develop into a competent, compassionate, and self-assured speech pathologist — at your pace.

What our new grads say:

"Starting as a new grad at Speechcare felt incredibly supportive. I was given the time to learn, the space to ask questions, and the guidance I needed to grow into my role with confidence."

"The Speechcare team is warm, collaborative, and encouraging. I know I can always pop my head into someone's room to ask a quick question. This, combined with more structured support and an autonomous way of working has helped me build both my clinical skills and my independence."

"Working for Speechcare as a new graduate is great because I am surrounded by coworkers who are lovely, supportive, and always keen to share their knowledge. My caseload was gradually built up with lots of support from my supervisor, so I never felt overwhelmed or alone. I also love the variety of clients that I get to see, from in clinic to at school; it never gets boring."

About the Role

You will work with children and young people with a wide range of communication needs, including a significant population of neurodivergent clients with speech and language delays, AAC users, and more. You will be embedded in a team that values neurodiversity, family-centred practice, and clinician wellbeing.

Key aspects of the traineeship include:

  • A slow, graded caseload build-up over the first 6 months

  • Weekly 1:1 clinical supervision and mentoring

  • Access to an internal learning program and structured PD calendar

  • Team-based learning, case conferencing, and peer reflection sessions

  • A learning environment that welcomes questions, feedback, and curiosity

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment, planning, and intervention services for children and families

  • Work collaboratively with families, educators, and other professionals

  • Participate in reflective supervision, peer learning, and ongoing training

  • Contribute to team culture and uphold Speechcare's neurodiversity-affirming values

  • Maintain accurate documentation in line with ethical and legal standards

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Curious, compassionate, and open to learning

  • Passionate about working with children and their families

  • Willing to reflect on their own growth and communication style

  • Excited to be part of a supportive and affirming team

Essential:

  • Completion of a recognised Speech Pathology degree

  • Eligible for membership with Speech Pathology Australia (new graduates welcome)

  • Current Working With Children Check and Police Check (or ability to obtain)

What You'll Gain
  • Deep, supported clinical learning across paediatrics

  • A values-aligned work environment where it's safe to ask for help

  • Mentorship from experienced, affirming clinicians

  • Opportunities to explore areas of interest and shape your future career

  • A team who celebrates progress — not perfection

How to Apply

Please send your CV and a short cover letter (or video, if you prefer) telling us:

  • Why you're interested in the Speechcare traineeship

  • What excites you about working with children and families

  • What kind of support helps you thrive as a learner

We welcome applications from neurodivergent, disabled, LGBTQIA+, and culturally diverse candidates. If you need adjustments to the recruitment process, just let us know — we're here to support you.

Speechcare: Therapy that values every voice — including yours.

Why SpeechCare?

Not just another first job. Not just another clinic.

Our approach and philosophies:

Connect First. Assess Later.
We lead with connection, not checklists. Our clinicians take time to understand each client's strengths, identity, and lived experience before diving into formal assessment. We champion a relationship-first model that brings joy and clarity to our work.

Mentoring Without Hierarchy
You don't just report to a supervisor—you're part of a team that shares knowledge generously. Structured onboarding, peer mentoring, reflective practice and real-time support mean you're backed at every stage without micromanagement.

You Help Shape the Practice
New grads at Speechcare don't just observe—they influence. You'll co-create visuals, rethink traditional approaches, audit tasks for safety and affirming content, and contribute meaningfully from day one.

Your Caseload, Your Path
We help you build a caseload that reflects your passions and professional goals—whether it's Speech disorder, AAC, literacy, affirming social supports, or late-diagnosis advocacy. Your career direction is nurtured, not dictated.

People Don't Leave.
Our team turnover is remarkably low. Our staff stay because the work is meaningful, the environment is collaborative, and their voices are valued. Some of our clinicians have been with us for over 15 years.

Deep Community Roots
Speechcare is deeply embedded in our local community. For 33 years, we've built trusted relationships with kindies, schools, and families. We offer free PD to educators, sponsor inclusive local events, support families through our Social Mums Club, and create pathways into speech pathology through scholarships and student programs.

Genuine Collaboration with Schools and Families
We don't work in silos. Whether we're in the clinic or onsite at schools and kindies, we work closely with educators, parents, and support teams to create unified, effective plans. Our team collaborates, communicates, and co-regulates—making every setting feel safer and more successful for our clients.

Values that Drive Progress
We're neurodiversity-affirming and values-driven—and that means we never stand still. Our practice evolves because our values demand it. We challenge outdated norms and find ways to do therapy that are respectful, effective, and sustainable.

Work Smarter, Not Harder
You'll learn how to deliver excellent, evidence-based therapy without burning out. We coach you not just as a clinician, but as a future business operator. From time-blocking to caseload design, we help you work smarter and protect your passion for this career.
