The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Manager - Workforce Services to provide a critical role within Barwon Southwest Prison Services.
About the Business Unit
The Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct incorporates four custodial facilities located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km's from the centre of Geelong and about 70km's from Melbourne. The four custodial facilities consist of two maximum security prisons, being HM Prison Barwon and Western Plains Correctional Centre, medium security prison Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex. The BSW Prison Services team provides both operational and administrative services to HMP Barwon, Marngoneet Correctional Centre and the Karreenga Annex.
About the Role
The Manager - Workforce Services oversees the Human Resources and Workforce Development functions within the Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct. The Human Resources stream consists of the Rostering portfolio responsible for the assignment of staff resources to operational duties and the Recruitment portfolio. The Workforce Development portfolio is responsible for ensuring mandatory training qualifications are maintained throughout the workforce.
This role requires strong interpersonal skills and collaboration with various stakeholders, including a close working relations with each prison's leadership teams.
Some of your duties will include:
- Prepare high-level strategic advice and briefings that integrate and synthesise information from varied sources to present options and recommendations to Corrections Victoria leadership and key stakeholders in relation to emerging, complex and sensitive matters.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Barwon Southwest Prison Services Workforce Development portfolio
- Lead stakeholder engagement with payroll and rostering teams to ensure appropriate planning of rosters and day sheets.
- Lead and contribute to welfare and wellbeing initiatives, including coordination of welfare matters for Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct staff.
- Oversee the coordination and assignment of operational staff to operational duties, championing collaboration with operational members and various stakeholders.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated capacity to simultaneously lead and manage the delivery of multiple complex project and business critical activities.
- Demonstrated understanding and operational knowledge of the corrections operating environment, and key issues impacting the Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct.
- Demonstrated understanding of rostering principles, workforce services and CV training requirements.
- Proven application of advanced computer skills to complex word processing, spreadsheet, presentation or database functions.
Qualifications/requirements
- A qualification or experience in Human Resource Management would be highly desirable
