Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground Steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.
Job Description
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Communications Technician to join our team at Capcoal – German Creek in Middlemount QLD.
Reporting to the Service Delivery Coordinator, you are responsible for assisting the Service Delivery Coordinator in the installation, maintenance and repair of communication systems on site. These activities are undertaken in compliance with relevant legislative requirements and Capcoal Safety Health Management System.
The Communications Technician will support the Service Delivery Coordinator in the installation, maintenance and repair of communication systems on site and must be able to work as a team acting in a manner which supports delivering departmental plans and continuous improvement objectives:
- Foster collaborative relationships with team members, ensuring that AAC's culture and values are promoted in all interactions.
- Respond to business-critical events as required
- Participate in safety processes as required including root cause analysis, risk assessments, and SOP reviews
- Travel across site to respond to tasks as required
In addition, you will contribute significantly to the leadership of the site and work collaboratively with team members to deliver on the business plan. With this you will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the site strategy, monitor and managing the performance of the mine site against set plans and working as an effective leader and team member by demonstrating a commitment to safety and positive work behaviours.
With the systems in place the Communication Technician is responsible for leading and facilitating the implementation of all people, safety, technical and operating business systems. It will also eb imperative you are able to ensure overall compliance with all systems and provide governance to ensure the system is optimized and when possible improved.
Experience
- Experience with SAP Maintenance System is preferred but not mandatory
- Flexibility to adapt in a changing environment, and respond to business-critical events as required
- Hands-on mechanical background to work on a broad range of equipment including draglines, excavators, haul trucks and light vehicles
- Experience in driving best practice through your department and into the business. This includes the development and implementation of strategy in line with business goals.
- Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes
- Track record in driving continuous improvement
- Astute business acumen and an appreciation for issues relevant to mine sites
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence and achieve buy in from key stakeholders
- An understanding of the coal mining process
- Knowledge of relevant mining legislation
- Knowledge of Australian Communications and Media Authority Act
- A high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work autonomously for a major part of the working time, and be self-managed
- An understanding of key safety risks and ways to mitigate these
Experience or familiarity with the following software:
- Tait programming
- Hexagon Systems programming software
- BC Commander
- Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook
Qualifications
- Minimum Cert III in Telecommunications
- Austel Licence with open endorsements in:
- Optical Fibre (cleaning and repairs)
- Structured cabling
- Coaxial
- Underground
- Aerial
