This is a hands-on, workshop-connected leadership role focused on construction drawings, welding design, and fabrication detailing. You'll need real-world experience in industrial, heavy industrial, or earthmoving fabrication and a strong grasp of Australian standards, welding principles, and local manufacturing practices.

THE ROLE

As the Lead Design Engineer, you'll be the go-to person for all things design and engineering. You'll lead a small, capable team, oversee drawing quality, and make sure designs are practical, efficient, and built to Australian standards.

This is a hands-on leadership role — perfect for an engineer who enjoys being in the workshop, checking weld details, solving design-for-manufacture issues, and working side-by-side with the people who build the product.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Leading welded product design and development with a strong focus on buildability and compliance.
• Managing engineering projects, mentoring junior engineers, and maintaining drawing quality assurance.
• Producing detailed fabrication and construction drawings using SolidWorks and 3D scanning tools.
• Collaborating with Sydney workshop and production teams to improve weld layouts and fabrication methods.
• Driving continuous improvement, cost efficiency, and high-quality design outcomes.

ABOUT YOU

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
• 5+ years' experience in heavy fabrication, construction, or earthmoving industries.
• A strong understanding of welding design, fabrication processes, and Australian Standards.
• Advanced skills in SolidWorks (2D & 3D) and proven ability to produce clear, workshop-ready drawings.
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on SolidWorks experience with demonstrated proficiency in both 2D and 3D design applications.
• A practical, hands-on approach and strong communication skills to work closely with the production team.
• The drive to lead by example and help your team deliver quality outcomes every time.
• Proven team leadership experience with the ability to guide and mentor engineering professionals effectively.
• Must hold valid Australian work rights and be authorised to work in Australia without visa sponsorship requirements.
