The Role

We are seeking an experienced Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Lead Mechanic to take charge of installations, maintenance, and repair projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sites. The successful candidate will lead a small team, manage jobs from start to finish, and ensure all work is delivered to the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, servicing, and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • Reviewing site plans and project drawings to assess installation needs and define layout points.
  • Preparing work zones by drilling and installing mounting fixtures, as well as cutting and forming piping systems.
  • Installing and servicing system components like compressors, fans, condensers, gauges, evaporators, and copper lines for various pressurized systems.
  • Assembling connections through methods such as soldering, welding, or bolting, while ensuring precise alignment.
  • Conducting pressure tests to detect any leaks and ensuring systems are secure - Running system diagnostics, adjusting control mechanisms, and fine-tuning operations for performance efficiency.
  • Removing test media using vacuum systems and charging systems with designated refrigerants.
  • Performing diagnostics on refrigeration systems, identifying issues, and executing repairs or part replacements.
  • Calibrating system components and reassembling for operation.
  • Keeping detailed maintenance logs and records of identified issues and repairs undertaken.
  • Leading and supervising team members on-site.
  • Diagnosing faults and providing effective repair solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with WHS, industry standards, and company procedures.
  • Coordinating with clients, contractors, and management to deliver projects on time.
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting on job progress.

Requirements:

  • Current Air Conditioning & Refrigeration License.
  • White Card (Construction Induction).
  • Work at Heights Ticket (essential).
  • Proven experience in air conditioning and refrigeration (minimum 5 years preferred).
  • Strong technical, diagnostic, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent OH&S practices.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
