Heavy Vehicle Operator / Truck & Pump System Operator (Hino 700 – 18 Speed Road Ranger)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Heavy Vehicle Operator to drive and operate a Hino 700 Road Ranger (18-speed non-synchromesh) truck equipped with a hydraulic pump system. The role involves operating specialised machinery, managing material loading and discharge, performing maintenance checks, and ensuring smooth day-to-day field operations.

This position suits a mechanically minded operator who enjoys working outdoors, handling technical equipment, and maintaining a high standard of safety and performance.

Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Operation

• Safely drive and operate a Hino 700 truck with 18-speed Road Ranger gearbox (non-synchromesh).
• Perform daily pre-start and post-operation checks, recording vehicle condition and reporting issues immediately.
• Ensure compliance with NHVR fatigue and road safety regulations.
• Maneuver and position the truck accurately at worksites under tight or uneven access conditions.

Pump System Operation

• Set up, operate, and monitor high-output pump systems attached to the vehicle.
• Connect hoses, manage pressure controls, and coordinate material flow between supply and discharge points.
• Conduct operational checks, monitor gauges, and troubleshoot basic hydraulic or pneumatic issues on-site.
• Assist in hose setup, extension, cleaning, and proper storage after each job.

Maintenance & Care

• Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the truck and equipment at all times.
• Perform minor mechanical checks (fluids, filters, belts, fittings) and report maintenance requirements promptly.
• Assist with routine servicing schedules and liaise with workshop or management for repairs.

Teamwork & Site Coordination

• Communicate clearly with team members and site supervisors to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Follow all workplace safety protocols, PPE requirements, and environmental management standards.
• Manage work areas to ensure minimal disturbance or dust generation.
• Support setup and pack-down activities at various work sites as directed.

Requirements:

• Current HR or HC driver's licence (essential).
• Proven experience with Road Ranger (18-speed) non-synchromesh transmissions.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot hydraulic or pneumatic equipment.
• Good mechanical aptitude and practical understanding of heavy machinery.
• Strong focus on safety, reliability, and efficiency.
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling and outdoor work.
• White Card (Construction Induction) preferred.
• Ability to work autonomously and take initiative on-site.

Desirable Qualities:

• Previous experience in mobile plant operation, pumping systems, or civil/landscape projects.
• Basic understanding of hydraulic flow, pressure regulation, and hose management.
• Positive attitude, problem-solving mindset, and willingness to learn.
